The Best South Austin Gym Since 2007. Never Any Contracts, Extra Fees, Or Hassles!
*****VIRUS UPDATE***** 5/17/2020
Some gyms in TX will be reopening at 25% capacity on May 18th.
The Austin Fitness Center will NOT reopen on May 18th.
Hospitalizations have more than doubled in Travis County, and the known cases of the virus have climbed exponentially since TX started reopening back in early May. It is simply too soon to open a gym because while exercising, people will be breathing heavily and expelling potentially virus laden droplets into the air, and full time social distancing is virtually impossible in any gym.
When will we reopen?
The gym will re open not when a politician tells us to, but when the numbers go down and the amount of accessible and reliable tests go up. That could be a few weeks, and it could be a few months. There is no way to predict when this will happen.
Why Not Reopen And Constantly Wipe Everything Down?
Because you can wipe down gym equipment constantly, or anything else for that matter, but that does nothing for the airborne particles that transmit the virus which are going to be prevalent in a gym with exercising and heavy breathing going on. THAT is how you're going to get sick, as well as get others sick, whether the equipment is clean or not, and whether you wash your hands or not.
You could immerse your hands in the virus, and so long as you don't touch your eyes, nose, or mouth, you'll be fine. Touching your face is optional, but breathing is not.
It would be socially irresponsible to reopen prematurely in order to make money or simply because a politician said I should. I have people's health to look out for, and that is a responsibility I never have, nor would I ever place behind anything else!
*****Per the directive given by the City Of Austin to shelter in place, as well as the Governor's office back on March 19th to close, the Austin Fitness Center, along with ALL gyms in Texas, temporarily ceased ALL operations.*****
We suspended all billing and operations March 18th. All members will have a credit for every day they've paid for their membership that the gym had to be closed and it will be reflected in their dues once we re-open.
To those people who have reached out and said no credits are necessary so as to ease our hardship, THANK YOU AND I CAN'T BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW MUCH THAT MEANS TO ME!!!!!!
Like many small businesses, we never received the PPP small business loan, or even a call back, yet I've been responsible for rent, insurance, payroll, upkeep, etc, the whole time.
I will continue to update this page as this all plays out and we learn more. I hope you and your loved ones stay healthy and we will see you back at the gym as soon as possible!
